Winter, Busy Winter!

Winter brings us some snow and ice during the winter. Some years are worse than others. The years that the ice and snow comes on so thick that it keeps you in for a week are major for us. They don’t happen that often. So, it’s pretty mild when you compare it to the north US or even the panhandle of Texas.

We have a wet cold that makes it seem colder than it is. The wind makes it seem colder, too.

This year we had an unusually mild winter. We spent much of the winter so dry and most of the state of Texas was under a burn ban. No outside burning was allowed. We only had one real storm and it was a mess for a day.

Most of the winter is spent going to two basketball games a week. Keeping the kids up with their school-work and get started on practice for baseball, track, one-act-play, and band. Before there is time to get used to one schedule, it changes.

The other things that came into view in January were stock shows. Our kids didn’t manage to get ag-science into their schedules and pens built or we would have had livestock shows to go to in addition to the already busy schedule.

Our 16-year-old son helped his friends with their pig projects this year. I think my daughter would like to show a pig next year. We’ll just have to wait and see if those pens get built or not.

The spring semester turns into the busiest time of year. Before you know it the grass turns green and it’s time to plant, clean the yard, and mow in addition to baseball games, track meets, and band concerts.

About the time that the schedule seems too much, the school year is over and summer starts. What will we do this summer? Our family is still working on that one.
